Certified Safe for Canadian Installations
CSA (Canadian Standards Association, now part of CSA Group) is Canada's counterpart to UL — an independent testing and certification body verifying that electrical products meet Canadian safety standards under the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC). Historically, products sold in the U.S. carried a UL mark and products sold in Canada carried a CSA mark separately, requiring manufacturers to test against both.
Today, many products carry a combined mark (often shown as "cULus" or "UL/CSA") indicating the product has been tested to and meets both U.S. and Canadian requirements through a single certification process, reducing the need for separate country-specific testing.
Both serve the same function for their respective markets:
For projects spanning both countries, confirming a fixture carries a combined or dual certification avoids needing separate product lines per market.
Confirm whether your project specification requires CSA certification specifically, a combined UL/CSA mark, or either is acceptable — Canadian facilities and projects citing the CEC generally expect CSA certification or an equivalent combined mark rather than U.S.-only UL listing.
